Tonsilitis In Mouth
By cepat sehat|10 Mei 2024|Penyakit
Symptoms of painful swallowing are uncomfortable pain that can happen to anyone, which usually results in a decrease in appetite which causes a feeling of weakness throughout the body. Inflammation of the tonsils or Tonsillitis can be caused by viruses or bacteria which cause inflammation of the tonsils which are in the form of two oval-shaped tissue pads at the back of the throat with one tonsil on each side. In acute conditions, the symptoms are the same as pharyngitis, namely pain in swallowing, but for chronic conditions (chronic and recurring) there is usually no pain in swallowing and it tends to get bigger until it causes difficulty swallowing, and can even cause choking while sleeping.
The tonsils are the immune system's first defense against bacteria and viruses that enter the mouth, making the tonsils very vulnerable to infection and inflammation. Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by viral infections, but bacterial infections can also cause tonsillitis. Appropriate treatment when suffering from tonsillitis really depends on the cause so it is important to get a quick and accurate diagnosis.
There are several viruses that generally cause most cases of tonsillitis, including viruses that cause flu such as adenovirus, rhinovirus, influenza, coronavirus and others. Meanwhile, the most common bacteria is group A Streptococcus B hemolyticus which also causes inflammation of the throat (pharyngitis).
FREQUENTLY FOUND SYMPTOMS / COMPLAINTS
Inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis) is generally common in children under five and teenagers, the following are the symptoms/complaints that sufferers often complain about:
a. Sore throat
b. It is difficult to swallow so sufferers usually become lazy about eating or are afraid to eat because it hurts when swallowing food
c. Fever
d. The tonsils look red and swollen
e. Bad breath
f. Headache
g. Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck
h. Sometimes you can see white/yellow layers or spots on the tonsils (called detritus)
TREATMENT
Tonsillitis, especially those caused by viral infections, generally heals on its own. Treatment with medication is usually given to reduce the complaints felt by sufferers. However, there are several things you can do to help you recover more quickly, including:
- Drink lots of water
- Enough rest
- Avoid cigarette smoke, dust and air pollution
- Eat foods that are nutritious and do not stimulate the throat such as spicy and fried foods
The option of removing the tonsils through surgery (called a tonsillectomy) is usually an option if the tonsils are too large and often cause the sufferer to have the same pain (recurrence) or become a source of infection, have difficulty swallowing, or often choke while sleeping or no longer respond to the treatment given. or there are indications that a tonsil tumor is suspected and is the cause of febrile seizures. However, tonsil surgery cannot be performed if you are suffering from blood clotting disorders, anemia (anemia) and are in the acute phase.
TIPS FOR PREVENTING TONSILLITIS
Tonsillitis is easily transmitted, so to prevent contracting this disease, there are several tips you can do, namely:
- Wash your hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the toilet.
- Do not share food/drinks/drinking glasses, water bottles, eating utensils or toothbrushes with other people.
