Thrush, called stomatitis, is a disorder of the mucous membrane of the mouth with signs of white sore spots on the area of the walls of the mouth, upper lip and tongue surrounded by inflammation around it. Generally, almost everyone has experienced canker sores. Both children and adults.
Even though their size is small, canker sores often make sufferers uncomfortable eating or drinking because they are painful and uncomfortable talking, so this symptom should not be underestimated. Especially if it is experienced by children, it will cause the child to become fussy and have difficulty gaining weight or even lose weight due to the child not wanting to eat because of the pain and pain when eating. Canker sores can occur on the oral mucosa in the inner lips or cheeks. Can occur in the gum folds with the flesh of the cheeks/lips. It can also occur on the ceiling, under the tongue, on the surface of the tongue, and even on the tonsils.
CAUSES OF THRUSH
In the oral cavity there are many bacteria and fungi that can cause canker sores. But there are several factors that can also cause canker sores, including:
- Wounds caused by teeth bites, which usually occur when talking or eating by accidentally biting the lips, tongue and inner side of the cheek mucosa, can also be caused by fish spines, toothpicks or collisions with eating utensils.
- Irritation due to using toothpaste or mouthwash that contains alcohol or sodium lauryl sulphate.
- Toothbrush bristles that are too stiff or brushing your teeth too hard can injure the mucosa of the gum walls and the surface of the walls of the oral cavity.
- Due to improper use of braces or dentures.
- Psychological factors where feelings of anxiety and stress arise which trigger a decrease in body antibodies which ultimately facilitate the appearance of canker sores.
- Lack of intake of mineral nutrients such as iron, folic acid and zinc and vitamin B2.
- Not maintaining oral hygiene, such as rarely brushing your teeth, can cause various germs to nest in the mouth and cause infections. Canker sores can appear when this bacterial infection causes inflammation and sores in the oral cavity.
- Side effects of long-term medications such as chemotherapy, anti-epileptic drugs, antibiotics and corticosteroids.
- Oral cancer in canker sores that don't go away.
TIPS FOR PREVENTING THREES
- Always maintain oral hygiene by diligently brushing your teeth with soft bristles (Mild/Medium), using toothpaste that does not irritate the oral mucosa and cleaning food residue between your teeth with dental floss.
- Eat foods that are quite nutritious and contain lots of nutrients such as B12, zinc, iron and folic acid.
- Regularly consume fruit and vegetables.
- Drink lots of water.
- Use canker sore medicine sold in pharmacies and use the dosage according to the instructions for use.
- Avoid foods/drinks that trigger canker sores such as spicy, sour and too hot foods.
- Generally canker sores can heal on their own within 2 to 4 weeks depending on the type and cause. If the symptoms persist and the pain/pain is very disturbing, you should immediately consult a doctor at the nearest health facility or via telemedicine.
